“Life is not about what you can achieve, it is what you can become.”
I am not sure who is responsible for this gem, but I can tell you that I first heard it during a viewing of the movie “American Underdog.” While it was not the best movie I have ever seen, I did thoroughly enjoy it. I am a sucker for feel-good movies and an even bigger sucker for movies based on true stories of real people overcoming real obstacles.
It doesn’t matter if you like the guy or not. The story is not just about him. He is the center of it, but if you look past Kurt Warner and the football aspect, it is about so much more than that. What he went through, what his wife and her kids endured, the way they stuck together, and the way they never gave up on each other, was truly inspiring.
He had a dream and he never let it go. Every time a door was slammed in his face, every time things got bad, he held on and never gave up. It was never about the money for him, though I have no doubt that was nice. It was always about the dream.
It feels good to see dreams come true. Even if the world may not be ready, doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t be working towards it. That work is what makes the success of the dream all the sweeter.
