“Sometimes all you need is twenty seconds of insane courage. Just literally twenty seconds of just embarrassing bravery, and I promise you something great will come of it.”
– Benjamin Mee (We Bought a Zoo)
If you crave science fiction, fantasy, action, or murder and mayhem, this might not be the movie for you. I have to admit, I found myself surprised that I enjoyed it as much as I did. Honestly, I had low expectations from the beginning and was not overly enthusiastic about viewing it, but I am glad that I did.
It was entertaining from beginning to end and had a lot of that extra stuff that you get from movies that focus more on the emotional content that you don’t get from action or adventure films. It was funny, dramatic, emotional, intelligent, and inspiring, in ways that I am not quite sure how to explain.
Another movie that is based on a true story (unfortunately the real zoo is in England….sorry to any disappointed by this news) but this one took plenty of artistic license. Still, whether fake or real foundation, the overall story was one of hard work, compassion, family, and enduring the hardships that inevitably accompany every dream worth having.
I found myself wishing and hoping to one day be able to visit this place. Not just for the animals, but for what I am betting is a positive atmosphere and an inspirational journey worthy of high praise.
