“Don’t you ever stop dreaming, my love. You can be anyone you want to be.”
– Travers Goff (Saving Mr. Banks)
Everything about Saving Mr. Banks was meant to motivate and inspire. Mary Poppins was wonderful, but getting a chance to watch a recreation of the events that made one of the greatest movies in cinematic history possible is a journey in itself. Filled with comedy, drama, and intrigue, every time I watch this movie, I feel like I am getting to watch the magic being brought to life.
Let us say you are not a fan of Disneyland or Disney movies. Fine. Take a step back and review Walt Disney as a businessman. A man frequently defying the odds and bringing his dreams to life for the world to enjoy. Disney wasn’t successful because he made awesome movies and built the greatest theme parks in history. He was successful because he never stopped imagining and pursuing his dreams.
Saving Mr. Banks is also a journey that shows what can happen if you let yourself get trapped in the past. Pamela Travers lost sight of what her character and stories truly meant and her attitude and inability to let things go nearly cost the entire world an artifact that would motivate and inspire an entire industry and future generations.
Most importantly, I love that Disney never gave up. Sure he was plenty odd, but it is always the odd ones that create and invent the things that make us better than we ever thought possible.
