“We always have only one life man. That’s all we get. That’s how it works. The question is how are you going to live it. Which guy are you going to decide to be?”
– Fridge (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle)
I enjoyed this movie for so many reasons. I love a good adventure movie and when you add this much talent to the project, you are destined to end up with a product that is next level awesome. I like the sequel, but there is no denying that Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is a movie that is worth seeing and then watching again.
I was concerned before I saw it the first time. Like many, I was a HUGE fan of the original with Robin Williams and was wondering if they were going to ruin a movie that can never be replaced or redone. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle did not disappoint. They delivered an action-packed, comedic, and overall entertaining masterpiece that could stand on its own.
The most important thing, in my opinion, was they paid the proper respect to the original. There is a scene where they give what I interpreted as a brief nod to the original in a subtle and respectful manner. They didn’t try using it to prop up their product or to carry it to success. It was a brief nod to acknowledge the past and show respect for what came before.
That is one lesson I took from the movie. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle paid respect to those before and acknowledged that they were not first. Respect that was earned and owed by anyone that followed. Respect that, in my opinion, made the movie an even better experience than I was expecting.
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle also showed that, while it may seem that way sometimes, life is not a video game. It is metaphorically comparable to a lot of things, but no matter what, in the end, you only have one life. One chance. What you choose to do, who you choose to be, no matter what, you only get one chance. So make the most of it, and try to enjoy yourself along the way.
