Inspiration of the Day #29

“This grumpy old race car I know once told me something. It’s just an empty cup.”
– Lightening McQueen (Cars)

There is a lot to be gained from watching the movie Cars with an open mind and heart. Yes, it is one of the better and more entertaining PIXAR movies in existence, but I also consider it to be in possession of all of the more valuable life lessons that are applicable in the real world. The importance of friendship, respect, understanding, compassion, empathy, and the list goes on.

Most importantly, in my opinion, the movie Cars gives a visual example of the reality of change. Things can be one way for so long and it is easy to get comfortable or complacent. I am not saying that is necessarily a bad thing, but it is important that you pay attention and learn to move with the change.

Cars also shows the consequences of failing to adapt. It is not as subtle as you might think, but in case you didn’t notice, the installation of the bypass. The town failed to adapt to the new reality and as a result, businesses suffered and the climate of the town changed entirely. They knew it was being put in, they had time to come up with something, but the mistake they made was in assuming that things would stay the same.

The other important lesson I gained from Cars is the importance of slowing down every now and then. Life goes by fast and if you don’t pause every now and then to look around, you might miss it. It is hard for me to admit, but I need a break every now and then, and so do you. Next time you are on a trip, pick a place along the way that wasn’t planned and stop there for a few. You might be suprised.
