Inspiration of the Day #43

“Lost, not gone. If something’s lost, it can be found.”
– Sam (Uncharted)

I was skeptical at first, but this movie actually ended up being pretty fun and interesting. I am a sucker for a good treasure hunt movie. Uncharted, based on the video game, did not disappoint. It was a great cast, a fantastic performance, and whoever wrote it, I feel, adapted it well from the game console to the big screen. The special effects were a bit much, but I feel like it still was a fun movie.

Uncharted follows the younger brother, Nathan, of a treasure seeker, Sam, that went missing. He is found by a man who knew him, Victor, and is sorta thrown into the deep end of a world that he is not too familiar with. Using his intelligence, endurance, and commitment to find his brother, a deadly treasure hunt ensues. The race to the end is full of consequences for any misstep.

What I really enjoyed about Uncharted was that they didn’t skimp on the action while also heavily focusing on the academic journey that correlates with locating something lost in history. It is a constant battle of trust, intellectual challenges, and endurance. Nathan is well out of his depth and is forced to adapt quickly to a constantly changing situation and failure to adapt means potential death.

Uncharted also provides everything we love about Mark Wahlberg movies. He is sort of an action hero ish, always calm and cool, and never misses an opportunity to throw out an amusing piece of dialogue or insult towards our main protagonist, played by Tom Holland. I recommend this movie with the advice that you watch with a mindset that is detached from expectations based on the video game. Let it be its own thing and you will enjoy it!
