“The truth is, you guys have been given something that every athlete dreams of. A second chance. And you’re afraid of blowing it. We all are. But now our fear is shared, and we can overcome it together.”
– Jimmy McGinty (The Replacements)
I have to admit, I love a good football movie. When you add in a few all-star actors, and a few comedic misfits, The Replacements is the result. This is a movie that is not only a whole lot of fun, it is also very re-watchable. There is just something about it that makes for not just a great “feel good” movie, but an inspirational concept as well.
There are plenty of times in life when we wish we could have done something differently or that we could try something again with the knowledge we have now. The Replacements is a movie that captures that sentiment for a group of very different men. It is arguable that they are on the downward slope of their “prime.” Fortunately, the situation is calling for something new and they all get a second chance at a dream.
The Replacements is a movie that shows the reality and the hardship of getting a second chance at your dream and the tenacity that comes with knowing it is HIGHLY unlikely you will ever get a third. Not everyone will get this chance to relive a missed or broken opportunity, but it is nice knowing that the possibilities are out there and waiting to be found.
