Inspiration of the Day #50

“Don’t be a man. Be human.”
– Iris (Good Advice)

Good Advice never used to be the kind of movie that would typically be my idea to watch. It was a movie that I watched, reluctantly, based on the recommendation of my parents. They told me it was a funny movie with a cast that I would like and that I should give it a try. They were absolutely right, and I am so glad that I did.

I was a Charlie Sheen fan (pre Tiger’s Blood and Winning) and as soon as I was told that he was the main character in Good Advice, I decided it might be worth a viewing. His performance was not quite what you might expect. It certainly started out like your standard issue Charlie Sheen film, but as time went on, it evolved. It was a romantic comedy that actually ended up becoming a heart felt message.

Good Advice follows a spoiled and rich stock broker that is a selfish, materialistic, inconsiderate jerk, riding the high life, that comes crashing down as a result of his actions. He is forced to do things that he would not have before and, as time goes on, he adapts and evolves. The man, in the beginning, is about what you expect, but the man by the end is something else entirely.

I love that Good Advice is a romantic comedy with a deep message. A movie does not need to be super dramatic or serious to share a good, educational, or inspiring message. This movie is proof that you can have plenty of laughs while also learning that actions have consequences and that doing the right thing is never wrong.
