“Adventure is out there!”
– Charles Muntz (UP)
If you have never seen this movie, you are doing yourself a disservice. UP is yet another movie that, once upon a time, I was not interested in seeing. Fortunately for me, I have someone in my life that has opened my eyes. I have seen and done things I might never have, and I know for a fact that I am all the better for it.
UP looks and seems like it might not be for everyone, but I can assure you, it is relevant to anyone. To anyone who has ever had a dream, who has ever wanted to do something big or extraordinary, who has ever been afraid or hesitated when an opportunity presented itself. The most important and powerful advise is to not wait until it is too late. Even when you think it might be too late, it might not be.
I entered the viewing with idea that UP was just going to be another silly PIXAR movie. I am not knocking PIXAR. I love their work. I just never used to watch their movies through the lense of potential motivation or inspiration. Say what you want about Disney and PIXAR, but there are plenty of good and powerful lessons to be learned if you are paying attention and watching with an open mind and heart.
I love action and adventure. I am a veteran of the armed forces and lived the life of a service member. That does not mean I, or any other service member, is cold hearted or incapable of compassion or empathy. UP is exactly that. Compassion. Empathy. Taking chances and living life before it is too late. Don’t put things off until later. Later can end at any moment. Take a chance. Have some fun. Appreciate what you have, but it is OK to want a little more.
