Inspiration of the Day #61

“Trust, responsibility, taking the weight for your choices and feelings, and spending the rest of your life living up to them. And above all, not hurting the object of your love.”
– William Parrish (Meet Joe Black)

Fair warning, Meet Joe Black is a pretty long movie. It is 6 minutes shy of 3 hours. I promise you though, it is worth it. I remember when this movie first came out and it was a huge deal. I didn’t care. I had the same kind of tunnel vision that most young boys have when it came to entertainment. If it wasn’t a comedy, cartoon, or lacked roundhouse kicks and things going boom, it wasn’t on my watchlist.

I didn’t see Meet Joe Black until more than 20 years after its release and even then, I was still skeptical. It is like they say. Better late than never. Not only did I enjoy the movie, I found it heartwarming and inspirational. The concepts and ideas behind the plot were fascinating and well-executed. It points out some very interesting questions that we should all be asking ourselves daily. Questions that contribute towards life in general and it’s quality.

I absolutely love Anthony Hopkins and Brad Pitt was also perfect for his role. Even looking at the rest of the cast, you will see a lot of familiar faces. Meet Joe Black follows a very rich and powerful businessman that is on the brink of death. Death shows up and makes an interesting deal. It is a deal we would all accept. Give death a tour of life, and in return, you get to live a little longer.

Meet Joe Black asks the question that many of us have heard or maybe you have even asked yourself before. But did you mean it when you asked? Did you understand what you were asking? What would you do if you knew it was going to end but were granted a little more time? The real question is how do you know that tomorrow will come? What are you going to do about it today?

It is a long movie. I get it. I promise you though, if you enjoy movies that make you wonder, make you think, motivate you to take action and enjoy every moment you have, this is a great movie for you. I highly recommend giving it a try. It is well worth the time.
