Inspiration of the Day #75

“I know that love is unconditional. But I also know that it can be unpredictable, unexpected, uncontrollable, unbearable, and strangely easy to mistake for loathing.”
– Yvaine (Stardust)

Movies based on books are always a sensitive subject. Will it be similar to the source material? Will it be its own thing? Do I want it to be one or the other? When it comes to situations like these, there are too many factors to consider. Stardust was a book that I am sure was difficult to do either, yet I feel they somehow mastered both.

Stardust occurs in a place between fiction and reality. Obviously, the entire story is fiction and most of the places in it are fictional, but there is also a sprinkling of truth. One of the main characters is from London and there is some talk of London within the film, but just about everything else is fabricated to create a fantasy of majestic wonder.

You get to see a lot of A-list actors inhabit roles that are not typical and the story is so out there that it is so enjoyable to experience. Stardust is filled with action, adventure, romance, magic, fantasy, and comedy, and is a philosophical miracle hiding in plain sight. There are more what-ifs than answers and this kind of character development is something that we could and should aspire to.

Stardust sends a powerful message about what love is, what it isn’t, what it could be, and what you make of it. Do you owe someone a token to serve as proof of your love? Is love based on mutual respect and trust? Is it a leap of faith with no ability to anticipate or predict the outcome? Have you ever asked yourself these questions?

If you are looking for a fun journey, full of laughs and adventures, I recommend giving this movie a try. Plus, you usually can’t go wrong with a movie involving Robert De Niro.
