“Human beings were not meant to sit in little cubicles staring at computer screens all day, filling out useless forms and listening to eight different bosses drone on about mission statements.”
– Peter (Office Space)
I almost want to call this one a reverse motivational movie, but as with many films, there is intelligence and wisdom that goes beyond the initial experience. Office Space is one of those classics that I feel is a must-see for everyone. There are so many elements of truth and it is one of the most relatable movies that is also fictional ever made.
Anyone that has ever worked a desk job or in a corporate environment has encountered at least one of the instances that take place in this movie. If you haven’t you are among the lucky few. Some people are happy in this setting and for those of you who are, I am happy for you. Even so, Office Space is a great movie for you too.
Office Space follows an ordinary guy, working a job he hates, in a relationship with an awful woman, and is stuck in a physical and psychological sand pit. He is sinking fast and is desperate for a change. Obviously, this film goes to certain extremes that are a tad farfetched, but also, lead to some what-if scenarios that we have all fantasized about at least once or twice.
Even if you aren’t looking for motivation or inspiration, Office Space is a great story with wonderful writing and acting. It is a much-advised dose of comic relief to anyone looking for a little entertainment and fun. It is rewatchable, but not exactly family-friendly. I definitely recommend watching but would advise caution. Not exactly a great movie for kids.
