“There’s a point at 7,000 RPM where everything fades. The machine becomes weightless. It just disappears. All that’s left, a body moving through space and time. 7,000 RPM, that’s where you meet it. You feel it coming. It creeps up near you, and it asks you a question. The only question that really matters. Who are you?”
– Carroll Shelby (Ford v Ferrari)
I wasn’t sure about this movie when it first came out. I didn’t see Ford v Ferrari as anything more than an attempt for Matt Damon to maintain relevance beyond the Bourne movies. I decided on my birthday last year to give this movie a try with some pizza and soda. I am glad that I did. I try to watch every movie with an open mind and this movie did not disappoint.
Ford v Ferrari was not what I was expecting from a Matt Damon movie and it was definitely nice seeing Christian Bale take on a different role as well. The cast was impressive but what was even more impressive was the true story that this movie was based on. I am not much of a car guy but I love a good racing movie. Fortunately, this movie had more than that.
I was not expecting any laughs, but this movie had plenty of them. It also had some great insights into the vehicular business world and how competitive it can get. Ford v Ferrari shows that it wasn’t just about whose product was better or who was making more money. It was about who had more heart and believed harder in what they were doing.
This wasn’t just about cars or business. Ford v Ferrari was about love and intense passion for something you believe in. These men weren’t just into building great cars or making a bunch of money. They put everything they were into a dream and were ready to risk everything to bring their dream to life. I definitely recommend this movie.
