“Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic. Capable of both inflicting injury, and remedying it.”
– Professor Albus Dumbledore (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2)
This, in my opinion, is one of the most important movie series in cinematic history. It was such a big part of my life, both the books and the movies, that I had to return for another one of the most important life lessons. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 was the concluding movie to a series that spanned over 10 years and I was fortunate enough to enjoy each on the big screen as they came out.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 brings Harry Potter and friends to the final showdown between he who must not be named and our underdog protagonist. The stakes are higher than they have ever been, our heroes are isolated, outnumbered, and everything is working against them. Friends are scared, allies are too scared to help, and most of the families are either broken, destroyed, or unable to help.
This was the battle that many of us spent 10 years waiting for and the finale provided in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 did not disappoint. The special effects were fantastic throughout the series and as with most things, the child actors’ talent evolved as the movies came out and by the end, it was truly a marvelous spectacle. Life lessons also found their way into the books and movies, this one being my favorite.
I, like many others, grew up hearing the phrase “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never harm me.” This, as we all know, is nonsense. I don’t care how thick your skin is or how mentally tough you think you are. Words can be more harmful or destructive than nukes. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 includes the final lessons from Professor Dumbledore, and it wasn’t just about words.
Sure, sometimes it only takes one word to change the entire meaning of a phrase. Words are ever-evolving as is their meaning. Words are important, but he was also talking about love. The meaning and the feelings that accompany them. What we do matters. Actions may speak louder than words, but the key phrase there is speak. The words we say can be good or bad, but our actions say things too.
