Legacy of Service

I try to make it my mission every year to watch Band of Brothers and The Pacific at some point. I would encourage anyone, regardless of culture, to give both of these television series a viewing. I do not encourage this lightly, but I feel that it is important to understand the price of freedom and that, regardless of flags, there is no such thing as a clean war.

This was a period in history where a lot of cultures, not just American, saw hate and injustice sweeping the globe and refused to sit by as spectators. The time came for everyone at some point and the people all committed to stepping up.

Many considered service to be both a privilege and an obligation. A duty to the country, the world, and to what was just. These shows don’t take place in the rear with the gear where a bunch of pencil-pushing, chair-polishing, brass-wearing cowards send others in their place.

Both of these were those serving on the front lines. Facing the evil head-on. Charging, retreating, charging. These show that even the winners lose something. We owe them our gratitude and respect. Even if you can’t handle the shows, the books are a fantastic alternative.
