Getting Outdoors

I have had this massive urge over the last several weeks to go camping or stay at a cabin in the mountains. I love the seclusion and the sound of nature mixed with the absence of civilization is always what the doctor orders when you constantly find yourself overwhelmed with the demands of adulting.

I love reading a good book using only a Camping Lantern for a light source and drinking a nice glass of red wine (especially if it is a cold night…..ice cold beer if it is warm). Add some Funions and/or Sour Patch Kids to the mix and you have yourself a mighty fine setup.

A few things to always have on you when you go outdoors? For me, I always have either a small Pocket Knife or something bigger if the occasion calls for it. Water of some kind in a Hydration Pack or Nalgene Water Bottle (whichever is more convenient, and often both). Most importantly, but also most carefully, is a heat source.

I am all for a good time and I like to have minimal worries when I am enjoying the outdoors, but it is never completely without regard for safety. I love roughing it, but not at the expense of reason. I love a good crackling fire, but please do not be stupid. Have a safe and efficient way to put it out close by and ensure someone knows to be ready to put it out if something happens.

Also, don’t be a dummy. Have a First Aid Kit fully stocked, up to date, and ready for each trip. Even a top-notch First Aid Kit won’t break the bank and it is a small price to pay to contribute towards a fun and safe outdoor experience.
