I am going to try to keep this short. We had a really good time. Bill Burr and his opener were fantastic. Bill Burr remains one of my favorite comedians. His opener absolutely crushed it and blew us all away. Unfortunately, that is where the praise ends.
This is nothing against the performers because they absolutely crushed it. I am a huge lover of comedy and I will continue to love comedy for all time. It was a lot of the other things involved that made the experience less than worth the large expense. It was a fun experience, but it will not be an experience I intend to repeat without a very good reason.
The venue was a disaster. The security was a joke. It was clear that they had absolutely no idea what they were doing and because of their incompetence, the show started nearly an hour late. On top of that, while going through security, everyone was forced to wait outside the ONE checkpoint, going through 3 at a time for a venue meant for 7k, in the 34-degree evening while 9 security guards locked phones and manned metal detectors.
Then, we get indoors. What a dumpster fire. Sardines in a tin can meet 2 concession stands, the most uncomfortable chairs ever designed for public use, and 2 more layers of a security team that was almost as big a joke as Bill Burrs’ opening.
Then there was the audience. What you see in the specials is nothing. I can handle the laughing. It is a comedy show. If people aren’t laughing, something isn’t working. It was the taunting, the talking, and the complete lack of consideration for your fellow comedy lovers. What a bunch of bozos. The ladies behind me almost never shut up the entire show.
I still love Bill Burr and many other comedians. I will continue watching specials and maybe attending small live shows, but the big events are definitely a hard pass for me moving forward. It was still a good night with great friends and my lovely wife, but not one that will be repeated with a big comedy show as the main event.
