There are many things that I enjoy about being outdoors. Almost everything about it is usually better than walking down most city streets. The sites, the sounds, and the smells, just to name a few. There are things that I enjoy about urban areas. Cool architecture, history, and other activities, but nature is where my heart resides.
I love going to the mountains whenever possible, and I enjoy going to lakes to swim and for the excellent views, but one of the most important factors when it comes to picking the outdoor locations I want to visit, is how isolated from technology it is. In my opinion, the more isolated, the better.
We all need to disconnect every now and then to gain some perspective. It is important to stop every once in a while to take a look around and be in the moment. This is difficult to do when you are constantly exposing yourself to input overload (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Yahoo, YouTube, Google, etc.). It is sometimes difficult to tune these things out.
I have found that one of the best solutions is to remove yourself from access. This is where the mountains come into play. I love going places where there is minimal to no access to internet. My willpower leaves something to be desired (especially when it comes to snacking) so in order to get this reprieve from technology, I usually have to go somewhere that there is minimal access.
This isn’t bad and doesn’t make anything about it wrong. I can admit that I sometimes struggle with input overload and need to remove myself from access entirely. The worst thing you can do about it is nothing. So where do you go to escape the input overload?
