“It is only in the mysterious equations of love that any logic or reasons can be found.”
– John Nash (A Beautiful Mind)
A Beautiful Mind is the type of movie that, for many, takes more than one sit-through to pick up on things. Even then, I feel like every time I watch it, I learn or see something that I didn’t catch previously. I know that is not ideal for entertainment for a lot of people, but like any form of art, frequently you have to look or see more than once to understand.
This is not an action movie. A Beautiful Mind is loosely based on a real story of a man that was a genius but his genius came at a price that even he didn’t fully understand. Without spoiling more, this was still a fun and entertaining movie that was a demonstration that even, or especially, smart people struggle through life’s hardships sometimes.
Being smart can be a blessing, a curse, or even a little of both. John Nash was a thinker ahead of his time, like many brilliant people, but it came with a few unpredictable and frustrating strings attached. John Nash had A Beautiful Mind, but it was also incredibly complex. It was a little too innovative, but you have to watch to understand what I mean.
A Beautiful Mind also is filled with a wonderful cast and was clearly written and directed by a few geniuses in the industry. I love the deep dive the movie takes into a lot of the challenges and frustrations that face a lot of the world’s more brilliant thinkers. The movie also champions the desire to solve problems, no matter how impossible they may seem, and to think outside the box, because that is where some of the best ideas or solutions reside.
