“You can’t go through life thinking everyone you meet will one day let you down. Because if you do, a very bad thing will happen. You’ll end up like me.”
– George Knox (Angels in the Outfield)
Angels in the Outfield is one of those movies that was truly something when it first came out. It was the 90s and Disney was pumping out a bunch of underdog-type kids sports movies, but this one was different. The kids weren’t the athletes. They were something more important. They were symbols.
I absolutely loved the cast. It is hard to end up with a bad final project when you have Danny Glover and Christopher Loyd leading an all-star cast of up-and-coming actors. You don’t even have to be religious in order to enjoy Angels in the Outfield. If you enjoy baseball, there is plenty of fun and entertainment just watching the gameplay.
I remember when Angels in the Outfield first came out. For a kid, it was cinematic gold. It had everything you might want from a movie at a young age. It was full of clean comedy, sports action sequences, and educational moments that any developing mind, child or adult, can benefit from. My favorite part about movies like this, it is just as much fun now as it was back then.
My takeaway from Angels in the Outfield was mainly to be grateful and to do my best to always keep my head up, no matter what in life is getting me down. Sometimes it is difficult and the weight of the world can get heavy. Sometimes we all need an angel in our corner to help ease the burden. You don’t need magic or any supernatural force, all you need is to keep your eyes open and trust that things are going to work out.
