“Begin each day as if it were on purpose.”
– Hitch (Hitch)
Say or think what you want about Will Smith, the man was a talented entertainer. I don’t condone some of his actions, but the man is a big thinker and an even bigger doer within his industry. There are many of his projects over the years that I have loved and he certainly had a wide range of genres. Hitch has to be among my favorite.
There are so many reasons this movie was enjoyable. It was full of comedy, drama, romance, suspense, and did I mention….comedy. Hitch was a lot of things to a lot of people and there is no denying that it was also full of educational or teachable moments. Whether it be romantic relationships, friendships, communication, planning, persistence, or patience, there was truly something for everyone.
Hitch wasn’t just about learning how to get the girl or the guy, it was about wanting something that you think might be unattainable for you. For whatever reason. While some people might see him as a manipulator or a trickster, I saw him as something more. I saw the entire movie as something more.
Confidence is not always the easiest thing to come by. Even for the bravest, most courageous, most fearless people, there is likely something they are not admitting to that frightens them. Maybe it is a battlefield, maybe it is striving for a promotion at work, maybe it is a long-term commitment, or maybe it is as simple as trying to get someone you like to notice you. Whatever the case, most people fear something or maybe feel unworthy.
The most important takeaway for me from the movie Hitch: having money or a great personality help, having a solid plan can get the job done, but no matter what, it is OK to ask for help if you think you need it. It is OK to not have all the answers. It is not unheard of to be nervous or scared. It is OK to feel all these things and not feel like any less of an adult for reaching out to someone. No matter what, you should never be afraid to ask for help.
