I have mixed feelings when it comes to animals in confinement. On the one hand, I absolutely hate the imprisonment of animals. The idea of being put on display for the purpose of public entertainment is quite disturbing and not a fate that I would wish upon anyone or anything.
On the other hand, I am a big fan of exploration and study. Seeing these magnificent creatures glide through a world of water and coexist with so many different species, even in such a confined environment, it truly a wonder to behold. I hope that they are able to get most of these creatures back out into nature, but I also can’t help wondering how safe that would actually be.
Still, if you have never had the chance to go to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, I encourage you to make the trip. The entire area has a lot to do and see. It is no cheap day out, but it is well worth it. The views are spectacular, the food is wonderful, and there is so much to learn.
